Adult Programs

Bible study and discussion groups are offered for adults to explore the issues of faith and spirituality. Our bible curriculum includes a wide range of subjects from the Gospel of Mark to prayer. Studies are structured so that if someone misses a meeting he or she can study on their own and not miss the content of the missed lesson. Most studies recommend 30 to 60 minutes of preparation in between the meetings. Our discussion groups differ and are usually centered around a book that the group reads independently and talks about together.

New Member Classes

New member classes are offered each year to help answer questions about our church organization and membership. It is also a great opportunity for new members to establish a relationship with each other in addition to getting to know the pastor.

Adult Confirmation

It’s never too late to get confirmed. Adults can take part in a modified confirmation class to work around work schedules.

Education and Discipleship

Our book group has started the book “Speaking Christian” by Marcus J. Borg. It’s not too late to join. The cost is $14.29.  If you are interested in a book, please email Bridget Detollenare at mail@fcc-Salem.org. We will be reading chapters 3 & 4 for Wednesday, May 1, 2024 @ 630PM.

In Speaking Christian, acclaimed Bible scholar Marcus Borg, author of Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time, argues that the very language Christians use has become dangerously distilled, distorted, and disconnected from the beliefs which once underpinned it.

Stating a case that will resonate with readers of N. T. Wright’s Simply Christian, Borg calls for a radical change to the language we use to invoke our beliefs—the only remedy that will allow the Church’s words to once again ring with truth, power, and hope.

We hope you will join us for great reading, fellowship, insightful discussion and fun!

On Sunday, May 05, 2024 in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month the book group will be showing the movie “The Hiding Place”. The Hiding Place is a book by Corrie Ten Boom. This book recounts how Corrie’s family led the Dutch underground during the Nazi occupation of Holland. Secretly hiding Jewish people in a hidden room in their home. This is a story of how faith can get us through the darkest moments in our lives. Please join us after the worship service for the showing of this movie. Movie should start around 11:45AM and is approximately 2 hours.
